Defining Standards for the Open-IX Association
The Open-IX Association is a 501(c)(6) non-profit industry association formed to promote more transparent data centre interconnection and the proliferation of Internet exchanges. Open-IX seeks to effect its mission through the development of standards and certification of entities which meet those standards. Open-IX is organized and operated by volunteers representing various entities and stakeholders with a common goal: increasing the reliability, resiliency and availability of interconnection. Since its establishment in 2013, OIX has certified 10 Internet eXchange Points (IXPs) and 23 data centres (DCs). Final certification was received on 21 September 2017.
Eli Scher, Vice Chair of OIX, remarks, “Open-IX is pleased to grant OIX-1 certification to Mumbai CH Internet exchange in India. We are excited to see better standards for data centre interconnection and Internet exchanges continuously being adopted within the key and high-growth markets across the globe.”
Mumbai CH is a proud supporter of OIX and supports fair, reasonable and transparent interconnections and open peering. The OIX-1 Internet exchange certification defines standards for Internet exchanges like Mumbai-IX’s mission-critical interconnection platform.
Mumbai CH, CEO, Nikhil Rathi said, “Peering is what promotes the efficiency of the Internet as it enables connected networks to deliver cost-effective, optimized and speedy Internet services to end-users. We can say if no PEERING, no INTERNET. Achieving OIX-1 certification enables us to demonstrate our steadfast commitment to supporting an open and robust set of standards that further promote these efficiencies.”
Mumbai CH – the Mumbai Internet Exchange
Founded on the 15th August 2014, Mumbai CH is an Internet eXchange Point (IXP) in Mumbai, India that interconnects more than 74 members, making it one of the largest Internet exchanges in India. The IXP is a tool for network providers to connect their networks and exchange IP traffic, promoting easy peering between different networks such as content providers, Content Delivery Networks (CDN), telecommunications, Internet Service Providers (ISP), DNS root servers, and much more. Mumbai CH IXP eases the path for network providers to exchange IP traffic between peering members by offering a common “meet me” point that enables direct interconnection. Mumbai CH aims to help peering networks connect effectively in order to further improve network performance and reduce latency. At Mumbai CH, we believe in making interconnection more affordable and streamlined and thus offer quality-oriented services that can assist our peering member to perform optimally. Our Peering participants includes CDN Players, DNS Root Servers, Content Providers, Video Streaming Services, Social Media and Internet Service providers, etc.
About Open-IX Association
The Open-IX Association (OIX) is an Internet community effort to improve the landscape of Internet peering and massive-scale interconnection. OIX encourages the development of neutral and distributed Internet exchanges while promoting uniform standards of performance for interconnections backed by the Internet community. The Association aims to promote common and uniform specifications for data transfer and physical connectivity and improve overall Internet performance by developing criteria and methods of measurement to reduce the complexity that restricts massive-scale interconnection in fragmented markets. The OIX Board is comprised of volunteer representatives from the Internet community, including, Matthew Griswold (Chairman), Eli Scher (Vice Chair), David Temkin (Founder), Robert DeVita, Vinay Nagpal and Aaron Hughes. About Mumbai Internet Exchange
Mumbai IX is the Prime Internet Exchange PoP of Mumbai Convergence Hub. Mumbai, being the Internet gateway to the country, was considered the most strategic location for launching our Internet Exchange given that it can also provide exposure to some of the leading data centres in the city. Hosted at the leading Tier IV data centre of India, Web Werks, our Internet Exchange serves as a meeting point for content providers as well as ISPs. Our peering platform assures to deliver the unparalleled quality that provides both private and public peering services to ISPs, content providers, telecommunications, and more. Connecting to an IX enables content providers and other networks to efficiently exchange IP traffic without the Internet, which further leads to faster performance and reduced IT overhead. Our IXP is managed by well-trained and certified engineers to ensure optimum operational efficiency, quality of work and full accountability. In addition, Mumbai IX allows members to connect to our IX fabrics using copper or fibre depending on their speeds starting from 1G to 100G Ports.
